These terms cover what you can expect from couch and what couch expects from you. Plain English. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them.
What couch is
couch is a personal-use app that recommends what to watch. It's operated as an individual project by Mike Kowalczyk, based in the United States. It is provided free of charge.
Eligibility
You must be 18 or older to use couch. Some recommended titles may include mature themes, and the app is not designed for minors.
Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
- You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
- One account per person. Don't share accounts.
- Provide an email address you actually own and can access. If you lose access to your email, password recovery may not be possible.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use couch for commercial purposes without explicit written permission.
- Scrape, mirror, or automate access to the app or its API endpoints.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, attack, or otherwise interfere with the app's operation.
- Use the app to harass, harm, or deceive others, including any partner you invite via the couple session feature.
- Submit content (anchors, names, etc.) that is illegal, harassing, or that includes others' personal information without their consent.
Recommendations and accuracy
couch uses automated systems and editorial logic to generate recommendations. Recommendations are best-effort and may sometimes be wrong, off-base, or include titles you have already seen. Streaming availability is sourced from third parties and can change without notice. couch makes no guarantee that any specific title will be available on any specific service at any specific time.
Service availability
couch is provided as-is. There is no uptime guarantee. The service may be temporarily or permanently unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, third-party service outages, or because the operator chose to take it down. Features may be added, changed, or removed at any time.
Account termination
You can delete your account at any time by emailing kramden88@me.com. couch may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice depending on severity.
Intellectual property
Movie and TV metadata (titles, posters, descriptions, ratings) is provided by The Movie Database (TMDB) and remains the property of TMDB and the respective rights holders. couch does not host or stream any video content. Streaming links direct you to the appropriate third-party platform where the content is actually hosted.
Disclaimer of warranties
couch is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The operator makes no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of couch. Because the service is free, total liability for any direct damages is capped at $0.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Continued use of couch after changes means you accept the updated terms.
